Welcome

ImageWelcome to the homepage of the Biomedizinische NMR Forschungs GmbH (BiomedNMR) - a research laboratory devoted to the development of spatially resolved nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and respective applications for studies of living systems. The group is a non-profit organization associated with the Max-Planck-Institut für biophysikalische Chemie in Göttingen, Germany, and funded by the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaften e.V., München, using royalties from the group’s patents.

BiomedNMR comprises an interdisciplinary research team, with expertise from physics to biology and medicine. The group’s core competence is in methodology, which refers to the further development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and localized magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). Our work ranges from new acquisition techniques and numerical methods for image reconstruction to non-invasive studies of the central nervous system in animals and humans. Biomedical applications focus on the neurobiology of animal models and on human neuroscience. Together, in vivo MRI and MRS allow for unique insights into the structure, metabolism, and function of the intact living organism.
